Welcome to the thirty-sixth issue of CEE News!

AlaskaBy the time you read this, I will have embarked on a week-long cruise to Alaska.  If you are opening this on Tuesday, I will be spending the day on the island of Ketchikan, cruising the George Inlet Waterway, then feasting on Dungeness crabs.  Wednesday is the Tracy Arm Fjord.

Last month, results from an annual poll that tracks the state of civility in the United States found that 93% identified a civility problem in America, with 69% classifying it as a major problem. What is your guess about how that compares to civility in the workplace?

If you work at Google, you may be feeling that the culture of incivility at work is about the same as it is reported in society. It’s like Thanksgiving because we get to share a bounty of thought leadership, mini live case studies, actionable takeaways and delicious food with a few dozen purpose-driven leaders.  It’s like Christmas because the sponsors, the speakers, the facilitators, the volunteers, and the attendees all share their gifts of time and insight with each other.  It’s like the Super Bowl because it requires a team to be on their best game and play their positions precisely to deliver on the playbook.

Welcome to the thirty-first issue of CEE News!

30 years ago, if I had wanted to apply for a business loan, I would have had to ask a male relative or my husband to co-sign. That seems incomprehensible today.

What is not incomprehensible, however, is the cumulative progress women have made in the three decades since the 1988 passage of H.R. 5050.  The Women’s Business Ownership Act enabled women to enter and enrich every field that we have stepped into – from engineering to entrepreneurship, from pharmaceuticals to physics.
