Welcome to the fifty-first issue of CEE News! “The single biggest challenge that any organization will ever face is its own success.” – Simon Sinek In the third most popular TED Talk of all time, Simon Sinek inspired leaders to reconnect with their organizational why. In just 18 minutes and with a rough sketch of concentric circles on a flip chart, Sinek shared what he said was “probably the world’s simplest idea.” Most organizations focus on what they do and how they do it. But only the most inspired organizations have leaders who start with why they do it first. Welcome to the forty-ninth issue of CEE News! I love this time of year. I was born in September and I’ve always felt a special radar for when the Earth is at the autumnal equinox. The sun warms my back instead of my head. I pair a jacket with shorts.  It’s a time marked by change and the contradictions that inevitably come with change. In organizations, September often marks the beginning of the annual business forecasting process.  Sales teams are pressured to predict top line revenue for next year. Executive teams sequester themselves to make strategic decisions about product life ...

I’m quickly losing credibility and confidence in my ability to manage. What strategies can you give me to connect with my ...

Welcome to the forty-eighth issue of CEE News! Today’s organizations are fighting a workforce trifecta of facts. Fact 1: There are 1 million more job openings in the U.S. than workers to fill them. Fact 2: The employee quit rate in the U.S. has hit a 17-year high. Fact 3: Workplace burnout is being upgraded as a syndrome linked to chronic stress by the World Health Organization in its International Classification of Diseases. In short, managers are trying to get more done with fewer people at a greater risk to their own health. It gets worse. (more…)

Business in Focus: Relativity

A closer look at companies executing leadership excellence If you’re mildly curious about the volume of daily data traffic circling the globe, you might check out Internet Live Stats for fun.  But if you’re a litigator whose case depends on organizing and selecting the data you need to win a case, wading through oceans of discovery can be grueling. A 2012 Rand study found that records collection and review consumed nearly three-quarters of litigation expenses. Data has only become more complicated and voluminous since then. That’s a problem that Relativity is solving. The software ...
